The story contains the disturbing elements of what can happen to children when their divorced parents convert their extreme conflict and hatred for one another into vengeance. Dr. Kirkpatrick's story also explores how biased, well-intended psychotherapy can bring tragic effects to children and their families. The protagonist is Calder Miro, Ph.D., a seasoned forensic psychologist, who initially conducted a forensic psychological evaluation of the case years earlier. When a child psychologist’s bludgeoned body is found floating in the sea off Ocracoke Island, one of the Outer Banks of North Carolina, Calder is pulled back into the case by his friend and colleague, Homicide Detective Kenilworth Brown, to investigate her murder. When a second victim is killed by a diabolical method, the two deaths connect to one another and to the original domestic case.
